چکیده

In this paper, a direct experimental comparison is made between scanning and tomo-PIV, on an unsteady wake flow behind a half-cylinder. Several seeding densities are used in order to demonstrate the capacities and limitations of both techniques. For the scanning technique, the effect of particles elongation is investigated and the influence of the seeding density on the volume reconstruction for tomo-PIV is examinated. The results of the two techniques are compared in terms of volume and velocity fields.

Enhancing Tomo-PIV reconstruction quality by reducing ghost particles

A technique to enhance the reconstruction quality and consequently the accuracy of the velocity vector field obtained in Tomo-PIV experiments is presented here. The methodology involves detecting and eliminating spurious outliers in the reconstructed intensity field (ghost particles). A simulacrum matching-based reconstruction enhancement (SMRE) technique is proposed, which utilizes the charact...

Time-resolved tomo-PIV measurements to study 3D coherent structures in a pulsed jet in cross-flow

The recent tomo-PIV technique is presented and apply to a pulsed jet in cross-flow. This technique gives the instantaneous three-dimensional velocity field in a fat sheet (typically the depth of the measurement volume is a tenth of the other dimensions). The results presented here show the applicability of the technique to the characterization of a complex three-dimensional flow.

Direct Numerical Simulation of the Wake Flow Behind a Cylinder Using Random Vortex Method in Medium to High Reynolds Numbers

Direct numerical simulation of turbulent flow behind a cylinder, wake flow, using the random vortex method for an incompressible fluid in two dimensions is presented. In the random vortex method, the primary variable is vorticity of the flow field. After generation on the cylinder wall, it is followed in two fractional time step in a Lagrangian system of coordinates, namely convection and diffu...

3-d Least Squares Tracking in Time-resolved Tomographic Reconstruction of Dense Flow Marker Fields

Flow measurement techniques determine velocity vector fields in liquid or gas flows. In fluid mechanics, many methods are based on seeding particles to visualize the flow imaged by an adequate camera system. The tomo-PIV (tomographic particle image velocimetry) technique presented in this paper generates time-resolved volumetric reconstructions of a particle constellation from a limited number ...

Lagrangian acceleration evaluation for tomographic PIV : a particle - tracking based approach

The evaluation of the instantaneous three-dimensional pressure field from tomographic PIV data relies on the accurate estimate of the Lagrangian acceleration. To date, techniques to reconstruct the Lagrangian trajectories from velocity fields obtained by Tomo-PIV have been used. Nevertheless, the reconstruction of relatively long trajectories, beneficial for the reduction of the precision error...
